About Us

Founded in 2019 by Yutong Chen, Unlock Chinese is a progressive Mandarin and Cantonese language school based in New York City. We offer customized, highly interactive instruction for adults, professionals, and children—but what truly sets us apart is who runs our classrooms.

An Educator-Led School: Our school wasn't founded by business executives; it was built by a teacher. Yutong, a graduate of Columbia University's Teachers College, started Unlock Chinese because she understands that teaching is a craft.

We operate on a simple principle: not everyone who speaks a language can teach it. Instead of a business-first model, we prioritize pedagogy. Yutong has intentionally built a team of like-minded, professional educators rather than casual tutors. To ensure our standards never slip, she continuously overlooks our curriculum and classroom practices, personally guaranteeing that every student receives the highest caliber of instruction.
