Our People
We don’t believe that anyone who speaks a language can teach it. The quality of our teachers is our biggest pride.

Founder/Featured Teacher
Yutong Chen
Yutong has been teaching Chinese for seven years. She teaches both Mandarin and Cantonese. Yutong has always been a language lover, not surprisingly, she is also a polyglot—she can speak English, Mandarin, Cantonese, German, and a bit Spanish. Growing up in Guangdong, China, she loved English but wasn’t completely happy with the way it’s taught in school, where it was taught in an outdated and rigid way. She was always in the search for more authentic learning materials outside of school. Yutong felt the needs for a revolutionary way to teach and learn a foreign language, one that is interactive, up-to-date, relevant, and real. Having taught foreign languages for a long time, Yutong sees the frustrations coming from following a textbook that is not personally meaningful, and following a curriculum that’s pure lecturing. Therefore, Yutong joined Unlock Chinese, a modern Chinese school in New York City, a real way to learn Chinese, aspiring to aspire students one class at a time.

Angela Chan
Angela Chan is a passionate musician and language educator who believes that learning a language is a lot more motivating and fun if we can catch the “melody “of the speech.
Angela believes that learning a language is a sensory experience. With a professional background in music and music education, she brings a unique "ear" to the classroom, helping students navigate the melodic complexities of Cantonese and Mandarin.
Angela has developed a teaching style that is rhythmic, intuitive, and deeply patient.
She views the nine tones of Cantonese not as a hurdle, but
as a melody to be mastered. Her musical training allows her to help students "tune" their pronunciation in a way that traditional textbooks often overlook.
Angela is passionate about making heritage languages accessible and alive. Her classes are known for being supportive and highly interactive, focusing on the natural flow of conversation. For Angela, the ultimate goal is helping students find their own voice and rhythm in a new language, ensuring they feel confident from their very first “ Hello”.
